My story
6:30 am I start driving using Waze.7:30 am I stop driving (long commute to take my kids to school) and start exercising for 40 minutes.
8:45 am I drive back home and arrive after 15 minutes. Again using waze.
Here is my consumption of data for that period of time (I reset the statistics just before driving):
Not that bad for 2:30 hours
But, checking further:
22 of those were from "System Services"!
And even further:
Time & Location?!
I was not able to find out what was causing such a disproportionate consume of data, not specific app was pointed out but 73% of my data was being consumed by "Time & Location". I googled for that problem at not avail. After some trial and error I was able to isolate the problem:
I love google location services and have set permission to google maps always on. Apparently having this option on makes the "Time & Location" feature to use a lot of data.
My solution so far has been turning off either data or Google Map's permit for location while commuting. Not the ideal but is what I got.
I was disappointed by iOS because it did not show which app was consuming that data (google maps had consumed 3 MB) and I am also disappointed by Google by making location history work in that way on iOS.
I'm thinking about switching back to Moves app... but I'm not sure. I don't like having this information in several apps. Any idea?
